The goal of the project was to design new guest and production facilities for an existing winery, located in the Middle Reach region of the Russian River Valley. This project examines the relationships between the process of wine making and the multi-sensory human experience. The specific ritual of tasting wine is highlighted within the broader experience of visiting a winery. Asserting the perception, wine as place, the precedence is placed on the act of tasting wine being unquestionably connected to the natural context. The orientation and placement of the tasting room, a wood-clad volume, emphasizes it as the primary programmatic element. The operable wall system provides levels of porocity in order to faciliate the user experience. [academic, 2013]
